Golden Hill residents call for truck ban on Fairfield Avenue

Posted: Tuesday, April 16, 2013 10:01 pm | Updated: 3:14 pm, Wed Apr 17, 2013. By ROBERT KOCH Hour Staff Writer NORWALK -- Golden Hill neighborhood residents haven't given up on their push to ban large trucks from Fairfield Avenue. Michael G. Mushak, an Elmwood Avenue resident, recently told the Common Council that a friend of his died last July from an asthma condition, which he believes was worsened by truck exhaust. "He lived on Fairfield (Avenue). He had been one of the initial people who came to me six years ago and said the trucks had increased when they put the ban in Rowayton," Mushak said. Fairfield Avenue "is only a mile long, but it has truck traffic day and night. ... It's a real serious problem and it affects thousands of people with bad air." The stretch of Fairfield Avenue, between Washington Street and Reed Street near Exit 14 on Interstate 95, has become a cut-through for large trucks, according to Mushak.
