At a time when fears of racial profiling in America are heightened by the shooting of an unarmed black teenager in Ferguson, Mo., newly released data about the frequency of minority drivers being stopped by Connecticut police is not encouraging. Such fears have always simmered for members of the minority population in a region where diverse communities such as Stamford and Norwalk collide with white suburban towns including Greenwich, Darien and New Canaan, and a Bridgeport and a Fairfield share a border.
